Child Actor 101 is a Facebook Community group built for Parent’s of Child Actors. It is moderated by 40+ Industry Professionals including Talent Agents, Casting Directors, Talent Managers, Headshot Photographers, Acting Coaches, Etc.
It’s a Confusing Road
As a former Child Actor I know first hand what sacrifices parents make in order to pursue a dream for their kids. Especially one as big as a professional acting career. When I started Child Actor 101 with my Industry Pro Friends I envisioned a place that warned parents of the many scams that exist and vowed to always answer questions honestly even if it stings. What the group became was a community far more in need than I imagined. Based on these needs I began to offer Parent 101 training classes on various subjects that required in-depth detaill and discussion. Two years later and we find ourselves here exploring a topic in a new innovative way that has the potential to give so many more a competitive edge.
Got Tape?
FOOTAGE: Clips or pieces from a finished TV or Film job. These are obtained through air check or copy being provided to you from production. In many cases, this copy is the consideration of the performers contract.
SELF TAPE: Casting provides an opportunity to audition for roles at home by self taping the sides with given instructions. These videos are proprietary & copyrighted and not for public consumption On rare occasion can you share or use these self tapes as a marketing tool.
REEL: compilation of footage cut to a specific time that showcases the resume or skill of an actor. Standard lengths do not exceed 2.5 minutes. Individual clips from reel should be posted on casting profiles for submissions to casting opportunities.
Why are Clips soo Important?
These clips are hosted on an actor's casting profile & attached with headshots to a submission for an open role. Casting Directors invite 25-50 actors to a udition out of 2500+ submissions .
Showcase Skill: Quality clips show the skill and range of an actor as well as the experience gained while creating it. These clips should be a prime example of what an actor can do.
Identify Type: Multiple clips can showcase the types of roles an actor can play. If you pair this with genres of productions then it is simple for casting to envision & Trust this actor to audition.
