Who else can act?

Before writing it is best to take Inventory or available talent. I have seen a lot of clips ruined by the performance of another performer.

The believability of a scene only works if every actor is adept in their performance Try to cast other actors or limit the degree of skill necessary for a scene partner with the type of dialogue written.

Limit the amount of emotional range required for secondary characters if you are unsure.

Sometimes children want to cast their friends only to find out they are stiff or camera shy. We want to compliment the actor with supporting cast members. We do not want to pull focus or overshadow a performance.

Do I have access to a location?

A lot of times I will write a scene to the location I already know is being used. Keep in mind environmental noises when choosing outdoor locations such as airplanes, birds, wind, cars, etc.

Keep The Focus

An actor makes a clip to showcase themselves. A good rule of thumb is to keep the scene partner's presence to a minimum with dialogue and screen time.

Having a scene partner ask questions in dialogue is an easy way to make their role Important but not command a scene.

We mainly want them to have great reaction shots to cut to in editing and provide conflict or connection in a scene.
